In search of the last model for his painting “Nine Pretty Women”, acclaimed scholar TONG PAK FU (Moses Chan) goes on a trip to Hangzhou with his ardent disciple WAT KEI (Lee Sze Chit). While there, he meets a pretty young maid from WAH’s Residence, CHAU HEUNG (Myolie Wu). FU is mesmerized by HEUNG’s beauty and martial agility and falls in love with her right away. In order to approach the girl, he disguises as a servant and assumes the pseudonym WAH ON, seeking to win her affections with his talent and ingenuity. But contrary to his wishes, HEUNG is unmoved and even harbours an intense dislike for him after a series of misunderstandings. Master of the family WAH HUNG SHAN (Ha Yu) knew from the very beginning that FU is not a common man. By the time his true identity is revealed, the scholar has already developed a close bond with the whole of the family, except HEUNG.
In the meantime, Prince LING (Tsang Wai Kuen), who has been attempting to rebel against Emperor CHING TAK (Lai Lok Yi), has managed to involve FU in his conspiracy by stratagem, thus getting the man and the WAHs into big trouble. LING’s daughter CHU TING YUK (Fala Chen) is in love with FU. Desperate to save her dream man, she forces LING to release FU by threatening to kill herself. YUK’s consuming passion for FU seems to have caused a ripple of unease in HEUNG, who is starting to feel a little twinge of jealousy inside.

Background:
Chau Heung’s original name was Ho Chung Yan. Ever since she was young, she lost her mother, and only had her father with her to depend on. Actually her father Ho Ying Hung was the leader of a martial arts society. Chau Heung was deeply influenced by her father’s principles, and felt that there is a need to know how to distinguish between right and wrong. She was determined to inherit her father’s values, and so learnt martial arts from him at a young age, and trained up to be good in martial arts.

As a plague epidemic occurred, Ying Hung unfortunately was infected with it. Fortunately a philanthropist, Wah Hung San, contributed by donating his medicine, thus saving her father’s life. Ever since then, Chau Heung and her father regarded Hung San as their benefactor. When the Wah family was recruiting personal maids and guards, in order to show her gratitude, Chau Heung decided to take up the offer, and she then changed her name to Chau Heung. She was responsible for serving the first madam of the Wah family, and she was being doted upon.

Unlike the other ordinary maid servants, Chau Heung knew how to read and write, and she admired the talents and stylish writing of Jiangnan scholar Tong Bak Fu, and even regarded him as her idol. Because her father doted on her a lot, he even copied Bak Fu’s poetry anthology and gave it to her. Although the poetry anthology had several mistakes, but because it was filled with her father’s love, Chau Heung regarded it as treasure.

Encounters
Suzhou town council had the honour to invite “Tong Bak Fu” to display his talents impromptu. Being his fan, Chan Heung rushed to the venue to see when she first learnt about it, and later revealed that the “Tong Bak Fu” was an imposter which made Chau Heung feeling disappointed. Later, Chau Heung met the real Tong Bak Fu, and was completely ignorant of his identity though they had met three times, but she only unconsciously smiled at him three times. With the three smiles, this led Bak Fu to go crazy over her, and was determined to pursue her.

Bak Fu changed his identity as “Wah On” in order to get close to Chau Heung, but there were several misunderstandings which made Chau Heung disgusted with him. Later she found out that her good sister Sek Lau fell in love with Bak Fu, and her relationship with Bak Fu became more complicated. There was once Chau Heung was chasing after a thief, and she caused the collapse of the six art halls which was built by Gam Yat Tim. Because of this, she was caught in a lawsuit crisis, fortunately Bak Fu managed to resolve it, and therefore Chau Heung had a change of impression towards him.

At this time, Emperor Jing Duk was visiting Suzhou. A treacherous official exerted pressure on Wah Hung San to offer Chau Heung as a gift to the emperor! Chau Heung hated when people abused their powers, and refused to approve, but yet did not want Wah Hung San to come to any harm; Fortunately Bak Fu had a plan in his mind, he taught Chau Heung to display her martial arts skills in front of everyone as this would scare them. Having to get along with Cha Heung, Jing Duk had a good impression on her, and wanted to take her as his concubine……

Chau Heung initially rejected Jing Duk. On the surface, she resisted, but the fact was she was secretly in love with “Wah On”, just that he did not know about it. Just when both of their relationship had gone one step further, suddenly “Wah On”’s true identity was discovered! Chau Heung realised that “Wah On” was actually Bak Fu whom she had always admired, and she was unable to accept it.

When Chau Heung witnessed Bak Fu repeatedly refused to join Jing Duk and Prince Ning, she felt that Bak Fu had no ambition and that their values differ. Even if Hung San wanted to show his thanks to Bak Fu, and chose Chau Heung to be his wife, but it was only a tentative marriage contract for one year.

Wah family faced a crisis whereby the entire household had to be beheaded, Wah Hung San asked Bak Fu back for rescue; In order to repay Prince Ning, Bak Fu was invited to the palace to help him out with an investigation, and requested to bring Chau Heung to take care of him, Chau Heung was forced to face Bak Fu once again. Chau Heung and Bak Fu carried out with the investigation, and along the course, they had to find the “white tooth” information. This caused them to develop feelings for one another unknowingly.

When both of them discovered that Prince Ning had the conspiracy to revolt, Bak Fu felt that it was best to avoid and escape first. However Chau Heung did not think the same way as him, she felt that it concerned the country’s turmoil, and she insisted Bak Fu to stay low in order to rescue the country’s calamity. Chau Heung finally angered Bak Fu, and eventually touched Bak Fu! In this case, Chau Heung found out that Prince Ning’s daughter, Ting Yuk, was fond of Bak Fu. But she was also stunned to learn that her father had joined the “Heaven and Earth Alliance”, because he wanted to restore Emperor Wai’s legitimism……
